• Perplexians celebrate the oncoming of summer with The Summer Festival.
• The Holiday Centers around the Summer Solstice, which is defined as the exact date when the earth is tilted farthest away from the sun.
• This typically happens on or about June 21.

• Retail Sales associated with the holiday have been on an upward trend for the last fifteen years.
• Traditionally not a major gift-giving event, as in winter.
• Consumers have begun to transition from traditional toy and joke gifts to larger and more expensive gifts.

• Preceeding the major holiday are a variety of lesser events and occassions, including a Celebration of Water, which takes place 2 weeks before Midsummer.
