No, this is NOT unused. If you set a search keyword in fFirefox, you can do something like pxc sente and it will send the word "sente' into a search page. but if you dont specify a page name, it will go to %s, which immediately redirects to the mian page.
I use this as a quick shortcut to the fFront page almost constantly.
