Some of the [[Puzzle Cards]] have playing card symbols, risk soldiers, dice, number strings, and obscure shapes on them. Each prime number card has a playing card symbol and part of a letter on it. Other cards have hidden text written in special ink.

We believe that [[Combed Thunderclap]] has put this data on the cards to help us find the Cube. The first meta puzzle solved, the Prime Number puzzle consisting of card symbols and letters, gave us the message 'I STOLE THE CUBE. HELP ME. COMBED THUNDERCLAP.' The second meta Puzzle solved, found in hidden text written on yellow letters on the Wave 4 card{{Card|223|Secret Location}} says "Five fingers point:half the world; realm; region; feature; last mystery." (Note all punctuation is added.) The solutions to these puzzles follows.

We have several more puzzles to solve.

== Prime Number Cards: Playing Cards and Large Letters==
Each card with a playing symbol also has part of a letter faintly printed over the card in a slab-serif font, and it's anticipated that arranging all the playing symbol cards in order will eventually depict the whole message. All symbols appear on cards with prime numbers. 54 Prime numbers under 256 are as follows:

The two paragraphs before the last have some letters that display before the others. This may be simply a visual effect or it may be a clue.

There are also strange images above the eye, at first they were thought to be kanji. Later arkai discovered that they are just letters turned sideways. These letters seem to spell "Waking" (just like the first word of the animation).

On 01-SEP-06, the babel page was updated to show a series of book-ish images, in various forms of hiding. Clikcing the opened book image below the message section takes us to the old message section.

Firstly, the page showed a slew of leaves.

Once cleared, text is plainly visible. There does not appear to be anything else of note at this point.

Then comes the interesting part. After a certain amount of time (about a minute?) the leaves blow away, and the page turns blank. Moving the mouse over the page reveals a new much more hidden message.

The two paragraphs before the last have some letters that display before the others. This may be simply a visual effect or it may be a clue.

There are also strange images above the eye, at first they were thought to be kanji. Later arkai discovered that they are just letters turned sideways. These letters seem to spell "Waking" (just like the first word of the animation).

On 01-SEP-06, the babel page was updated to show a series of book-ish images, in various forms of hiding. Clikcing the opened book image below the message section takes us to the old message section.

Firstly, the page showed a slew of leaves.

Once cleared, text is plainly visible. There does not appear to be anything else of note at this point.

Then comes the interesting part. After a certain amount of time (about a minute?) the leaves blow away, and the page turns blank. Moving the mouse over the page reveals a new much more hidden message.

''This is still a draft version, with many details and sections yet to be added/fleshed out. However, I thought it might be useful to some as it is, so here we go. Feel free to discuss, although the "discussion" page is probably easier to use and follow here. - scribe''

Stories, ideas and characters elaborated by Jorge Luis Borges ("JLB" or just "Borges" from now on) seem to be somewhat central in PXC. As such, this page sets out to summarise some of these, explain some of the ideas, and investigate how they relate to the world of Perplex City. Hopefully, parts of this page will be directly useful (in looking up a particular name, for example), while others may be either somewhat abstract, or of unclear usage until later.

However it works out, I must raise my hand in advance, and profess a love for Borges' work even outside of a PXC context. Any method that raises an interest in his tales, whether applicable to the game or not, is in my book a successful one. The first story encountered in the PXC timeline (AFAIK), and probably one of the best known. It describes a "universe" consisting entirely of books, which are arranged in shelves within an infinite (or near-infinite) arrangement of hexagonal galleries. The books supposedly contain every single permutation of the 25 characters used within them and, as such, contain everything possibly imaginable, in any language using those characters. Most books, therefore, are "meaningless" to the author, yet every now and then some sequence of characters (or, less so, some book) has "meaning".

=== Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius ===

Longer than [[#The Library of Babel]], this story is perhaps of most interest to the world of Perplex City from a TIAG/TINAG viewpoint. The author describes a friend recalling an encyclopedia entry about the country of [[#Uqbar]], but when they look it up, they can't find it. Checking the friend's copy, they discover a few pages with various information, including reference to an imaginary region called [[#Tlön]] which is central to [[#Uqbar]]'s fictional literature. Further exploration reveals nothing about the place.

A while later, the author discovers a volume of an ''Encyclopaedia of Tlön'', prompting the author to wonder about who wrote it, and to describe facets of [[#Tlön]] in various detail, including, language, philosophy, and geometry (see below).

A postscript to the story attempts to shed some light on the origins of [[#Tlön]]. The discovery of a letter by [[#Gunnar Erfjord]] reveals a "secret and benevolent society" that set out to create an imaginary land (in the form of an Encyclopaedia) - originally a country, but eventually a whole planet - in extraordinary detail, and completely hidden from public view. Such an effort would take many people in specialised fields, as well as across many generations. The first version of the encyclopaedia was to be the basis for a second, called ''[[#Orbis Tertius]]''.

The story ends with the description of some of the "imaginary" objects from [[#Tlön]] appearing in the author's world, and the ever-increasing influence of [[#Tlön]] culture on the real world, to the point where foreseeably none of the old ways are left...

Naturally, ''Don Quixote'' was originally written not by [[#Pierre Menard|Menard]], but by Cervantes. In this story, JLB explores the seemingly-nonsensical idea that the context through which a book is written affects how it is read, even though the words in the book are identical. Hence, the fictitious [[#Pierre Menard|Menard]] in the story sets out not to ''copy'' Cervantes, but to produce some words which ''coincide'' with the original work.

[[#Pierre Menard|Menard]] supposedly decides against merely imitating/becoming Cervantes' life (i.e. by learning old Spanish, fighting the Turks, etc) and instead sets out to "recompose" the book from his own "point of view" (whilst retaining exactly the same words). Borges goes on to highlight the differences in reading, going so far to compare two passages - one from each book - that obviously look the same, but get interpreted differently.

The two paragraphs before the last have some letters that display before the others. This may be simply a visual effect or it may be a clue.

There are also strange images above the eye, at first they were thought to be kanji. Later arkai discovered that they are just letters turned sideways. These letters seem to spell "Waking" (just like the first word of the animation).

==Message 2: Realise==
On 01-SEP-06, the babel page was updated to show a series of book-ish images, in various forms of hiding. Clikcing the opened book image below the message section takes us to the old message section.

Firstly, the page showed a slew of leaves.

Once cleared, text is plainly visible. There does not appear to be anything else of note at this point.

Then comes the interesting part. After a certain amount of time (about a minute?) the leaves blow away, and the page turns blank. Moving the mouse over the page reveals a new much more hidden message.

Finally, clicking in the upper left corner of the page reveals yet another message. Sometimes, this one is initially slightly obscured by leaves, but is plainly visible.

AirZ434: added some new emails

On Wednesday 16th November 2005, Perplex City players who had completed the set of four blue hex cards were sent an e-mail congratulating them from the Academy.

However, it seems that the Academy's e-mail system managed to ''leak'' some internal e-mails at the bottom of these e-mails sent out to players. Each player so far has received a different e-mail fragment. They are arranged below in date order.

The top portion of the e-mail reads:

From 20th December 2005 it appears as if some of these emails have been sent again, although at this time they don't appear to be related to the actual solving of a set (i.e. although the email refers to solving a set, no card was solved at the time the email was sent). I've been reviewing all of our procedures, and I can't find any red flags at all. I've been reviewing all of our procedures, and I can't find any red flags at all. You're right, though, this wasn't a case of transmission corruption, as we do see evidence of this same tampering in our finals, though not in any of the earlier versions at all. I've checked back and seen some differences in the finals from the previous waves, as well. It must have slipped our notice before. I'm gravely concerned about what this could mean.
