The department of cryptology covers areas of discrete mathematics, number theory, information theory, statistics, steganography, security engineering, linguistics and emergent decryption. The department uses some of the most advanced and powerful computers in [[Perplex City]] and works closely with other departments including [[Mathematics and Logic]], [[Natural Sciences]] and [[Languages]]. Recent studies have centred on complete end-to-end security using quantum processes and exploring how information might be delivered, encrypted and decrypted by the brain.

The department of natural sciences covers the fields of biology, chemistry and physics as well as many related disciplines such as AI science and technology; it has many inter-departmental links with the department of Mathematics and Logic and the department of Social Sciences. The department offers the finest research facilities; our particle accelerator, north of the city, is only the most recent of these to be completed. Among recent works of the department of natural sciences are the algal-bloom exhibit in [[Polygon Park]]; these algae have been genetically engineered to produce astonishing "fractal-style" patterns in specially constructed tanks in the park.

It also alludes to Joseph Dewey's "The asking of questions is the beginning of knowledge".

* A new logo that appeared in the [[Perplex City Sentinel]] on 18th April bears a new Latin phrase '''quaesitum quaerere sapientiae initium est'''. This translates to '''investigation to seek wisdom beginning is'''. Sounds very close to Clarence Darrow: ''Skepticism and doubt lead to study and investigation, and investigation is the beginning of wisdom''. It may also refer to the apocryphal text ''The Wisdom of Solomon'', 6:17: "The beginning of wisdom is the most sincere desire for instruction."
This logo was changed on the [[Perplex City Sentinel]] site on the 19th, and mentioned in the corrections page ([http://wiki.incognitus.net/mirror/ppc/www.perplexcitysentinel.com/19.04.05/corrections/index.html link]). It seems that the different logo was a mistake, but whether this was in game or out of game has yet to be determined.
