This puzzle was on a piece of paper found by [[Scarlett]] in a secret compartment in [[Granier House]]. Also in the compartment was a message from [[Anthony Granier]] which suggested that it led to a place which contained more information about him.

The puzzle consisted of a piece of paper with twelve lines on it, each of which appeared to be a depiction of some sort of binary signal. Each line took up exactly the same width and height, and they were all aligned horizontally.

After some hints were made in this direction but no-one managed to figure it out, it was Kurt who finally solved the puzzle [http://www.pathofleasttime.com/archives/2006/09/the_archipelago.html]. The person who made the puzzle stood at twelve different places, and at each he did a 360-degree sweep and drew a line showing where the horizon was obscured by other objects and where it was clear. To solve it, each line had to be bent into a circle, and then the circles had to be arranged so that the peaks matched up.

Kurt concluded from the resulting arrangement that the puzzle represented the views from the islands in the [[Lancewood Archipelago]], more specifically that each line represented where the horizon was obscured by the other islands. He also concluded that it must point to the thirteenth island in the archipelago, [[Hobbs Island]]

Anyway, you must be wondering what the solve was - it turns out to be simpler than anyone had been thinking! I only needed to move two of the tiles to open it. The 2 o'clock tile went 90 degrees counter-clockwise, and the 6 o'clock tile rotated 180 degrees, and then pop! it just opened right up. 

Both Brian Rater and Claire Melton sent me this answer, and looking at it, it makes sense, because the resultant pattern leaves only one mosaic tile of each colour on the innermost, outermost, left and right points of the tiles as you look at them from the center, and moreover the colours go through the same pattern. 

Sorry it took me so long to get to this, though. I've been writing my placement exams, which have turned out to be much easier than I thought they'd be. This has turned into such a good week!</blockquote>

Our Perplex City contacts have been talking about these recently:

* Does the [[Library of Babel]] page hold any secrets? And who is Combed Thunderclap -- the one who made the page, the one who made the [[Puzzle card symbols]], and (apparently) the one responsible for stealing the cube?

* [[Helena Frye]] - really as straight as all that? Helena Frye claims the [[Gillit Road]] fiasco was a legitimate secret [[Police]] operation gone wrong, no thanks to [[Kurt]]. But why did Kurt overhear the passing lackeys ask "why is Frye getting the police involved?" Was she a double-triple-something agent? And even if she is, as we assume, legit, we don't know anything about her obviously extensive counter-3P investigations. Or why she lied about the items found at the [[Five of Cups]] to [http://www.perplexcitysentinel.com/archives/2005/08/police_close_ho.html The Sentinel]. Or additionally, if she's truly "left the force" or has gone undercover, and why she's currently in [[Gladstone]].

* Who's crooked at the Academy? We know that Cyrus Quinton called the Academy and had a heated discussion with someone from the [[Department of Cryptology]] on the day following the theft. ([[Alejo]]: "Even our best production guy, Cyrus, was a little off that day - I remember he was having this big argument, said he was talking to Helix about his contract, but when I redialed from the studio console a little later to talk to Helix, I got some office at the Academy.") Also, Kurt's friend [http://thepathofleasttime.com/archives/2005/09/the_breakin.html speculated] (with an unknown level of actual information) that it would take at least two people to thoroughly circumvent the Academy's security systems, but said it was a "danger to say more." We know that one is probably an Adjunct Senior Fellow from the [[Leaked_E-mails#Super_Sneaky.21|leaked emails]]. V also refers to someone "more senior", who probably resides at the Academy, and therefore is probably a Senior Fellow.

* Where are the parts being stolen from the Academy going, and what else might the criminals need? One part was tracked to near [[The Brotherhood of the Six]] temple, where [[Anna Heath]] died. And what is the "Special Project 487" that was used to request the parts in the first place?

No news from Perplex City lately:

* We have evidence that confirms there was a second team of thieves who successfully stole the Cube, rather than [[V]], [[K]], [[Q]] and [[C]]. But who were these people and what is [[V]]'s [[3PGroupwareManager|connection]] to them?

* What is at [[Viendenbourg]]? What did the Castille family do there? We know it's some kind of military installation, and that they're trying to put together something that used to be there, according to [[Claire Castille]]'s story to [http://www.thescarlettkite.com/archives/2006/03/index.html Scarlett]. The sound of drilling emanates from a long, low-slung industrial building. It's very heavily protected by a neurodisruptive field built by Claire that renders intruders confused and ultimately unconscious. It was implied that [[Sente]] knows about its existence, but the employee might have assumed this from [[Scarlett]]'s presence at the facility. Does it have something to do with content in the previously mentioned [[Anthony Granier|Granier Diary]]?

* Who created the [[Djinn]] virus? This was a virus that destroyed or accessed data on people's [[keys]], and was transmitted key-to-key. It was created by someone who accessed insider information at the [[Centrifuge]] labs - a company that manufactures keys. The answer to this question is also the answer to the silver [[Shuffled]] card.

* Do the [[Public Unrest|symbols and references to Anarchists]] made by the vandals [[Malcolm and Spencer Kaplan]] mean anything important?

* Who, and where, is [[Cyrus Quinton]]? We think Cyrus Quinton was the operational mastermind of the Cube Theft Team (codename: V) who disappeared once he had murdered [[Monica Grand]]. V's DNA records are not on the city databases, according to police leiutenant [[Helena Frye]], which means he is either from outside the city, or has been able to hack into their records. Kurt can't find the name Cyrus Quinton on any databases either.

* Who was [[Miranda]] working for? She talks about being a "lesser evil" -- does that imply there is an existing group which represents a greater one?

* When Monica died, she told Sylvia that the original theft team "never held it" - meaning [[The Receda Cube]]. [[Claire]] told [[Scarlett]] "We never got our hands on the target. ... Someone else was there. I don't know who and I don't know why. But to do what they did, they must have been a better programmer than me. That's not a large group." There was most definitely someone else there. However, [[Miranda]] didn't seem to know about them, and in [[3PGroupwareManager|V's talking with the operatives on Earth]], he sounds confident and upbeat. So does someone else have it or not?

* Who was above [[V]] in the chain of command? We know he has a Bigger Boss, possibly representative of an even bigger Conspiracy. Who are these people?

* What happened on the night of [[Leaked_E-mails#Sneaky.21|7th Jan, 2004]]? One of the conspirators nearly gave the game away to a female somebody. They said a "challenge" line, and the person they were talking to (by chance) completed the "third element", at which point the conspirator started blabbing. They quickly realised their mistake and said that "I barely gave anything away before realising the error. She didn't appear suspicious." Does anyone remember anything?

* What was up with Violet's [http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10900 disappearing blog post] of 30th May 2005?

* [[Inari Ekeba]] is a Professor Of Natural Sciences and wanted to do Cube Research, but [[Sente Kiteway]] wouldn't let her. The [[Leaked_E-mails#Senior_Fellows_Meet_with_Sente|meeting]] flared up and she rashly threatened to steal the Cube. Significant, or a red herring?

* The big question: If the cube is on Earth, how did it get here and how are we meant to get it back to Perplex City?

==Loose Threads==
Some unresolved questions are unlikely to tie back into the plot, but remain hanging nonetheless:

* There are numerous [[The_San_Francisco_Connection:_Unsolved_Questions|unsolved questions]] from the online component to [[The San Francisco Connection]].

* The [[London_PCAG_event#The_London_Eye_and_Morse_Code|London Morse Code Message]] - WTF? We have snippets that are possibly decoded, but no concrete solve for the full message. We were possibly meant to go to the Tate Gallery at some point, but clearly haven't. Chalk another one up to the 3P, y'all!

* On the [[Receda Trail]], what was the missing link? Players traveled to a 9/11 memorial obelisk at Jones Beach, New York, but found no clues. Players then located the next step by checking for registered domains containing the word "receda". But what was the missing link between the two?

* Some while ago, a special offer was sent out from Firebox, which contained the [[Firebox 100 Letters]]. Many have speculated this is a global sudoku. While it is not directly tied to the rest of the story, the question remains, what is the correct solution?

* The [[Backdoor]] to the Crypto department is still somewhat mysterious in operation and scope, but since it is no longer accessible there's no way to figure it out further. There were two open questions: first, there was some method of crashing the system Caine found which pulled up a file we never saw. Secondly, when starting the commands with a single END, it was possible to extract single letters and punctuation -- were there more, and did they anagram together to form a password or the like?
