Talk:Main Page - Anna Heath
Added a fFrequently used tools, by request, to the fFront page. people *like* having links to the IRC stuff there. fFine, no problem. (had to quickly fFend off a small revolt, in fFact). and really not a terrible idea, i reckon. answers the basic goal of having common stuff in a common place. Scott 07:29, 15 March 2006 (EST)
Good Work!
Good work guys, very interesting change. Nice en to the point. Probably better getting people to discuss changes on the Wiki itself, eg: post on the forums that your gonna make a change and link to the relivant talk page.
As for the signup, i've come across a Captcha + Email verification plugin for Mediawiki, so you might not need to do manual signups anymore. any technical difficulties just drop em to the wiki(at)incognitus.net address, as we'll all get a copy of them then :) --Nik Doof 13:06, 15 March 2006 (EST)
Looking fantastic and loving the changes. This is just a note to say that I'm going to be doing lots of work on adding references and sources to existing articles, because there's a lot of information floating about and it's unclear where it came from. --GuyP 09:32, 17 March 2006 (EST)
A General Question
See that old pic in the upper left hand corner? It's the old postcard, which is now Season 1 Card #175 - Binary. It's cool and all .... but a bit, you know, aged. What does anyone think of changing it fFor one of the pics seen on the Official Downloads Page? One of the Static Avatars? I'm liking this one:

The Next Proposition might be to change the default grey background. This image could probably be altered to use the general stylings of This sky pattern. Thats a bit trickier, as it will require some photoshopping, but that's easy enough still.
Thoughts? - Scott 15:07, 22 March 2006 (EST)
I really like this av:

I do like the idea of using clouds. Maybe we can make it grayscale and lighten it up so that it's not so dissimilar from the one we have now, so that it still blends?

Researching it a bit, thinking it should be possible to change this sort of thing in the wiki (istead of in a fFile on the site itself) .. i fFound this: MediaWiki:Monobook.css which appears to be a comment page only, and seems to suggest: Yes, we have to edit the fFile directly on the site. Not a problem, it just means whatever we opt to go with, we hafta pester Nik to implement. That aside, Yes, I think you are right. The pic of the Cube might make a better corner-pic. I started playing with the background some. not really done; I'll set a mock up of whatever I come up with. Scott 14:24, 23 March 2006 (EST)
Another comment
While I'm thinking about it, and while everyone is reading this page...
I've noticed that we all tend to add lots of personal comments to wiki pages whenever we're posting information. I know that it makes it a more 'friendly' kind of interface, but on the other hand, it makes the pages a lot less factual. This kind of editing is something I picked up at the newspaper, where everything has to be opinion-neutral. So, hopefully everyone will keep an eye out for that kind of thing, so that the wiki remains a spec-free zone. :D

eta: Here, this is a good example of what I'm talking about (and I'm sorry to do a callout, but it can't really be helped).
Old revision - unnecessary personal stuff and comments that distract from the purpose of the page, vs. the current revision - edited to still include all of that stuff, but looking like "a person's hand hasn't touched it"...ie, it's in the right format, it doesn't look like an individual person has changed it, and it fits in with the rest of the pages seamlessly.
I guess this is also a note to let everyone know that I'll be editing this stuff out ruthlessly. I love you all; it's nothing personal! :D
