Season Two
- The current site is quite hard to navigate, not everything is categorised, and story arcs are quite mixed, some having a common footer template and others not. Or, at least this is how it seems to me, a relative newbie. Since Season 2 has started now, shouldn't we get started as we mean to continue? A page, category for Hot Water would be good, as there seem to be many arcs coming, and this so-called 'mini-ARG' episode has already got quite big. --Edgemaster 15:05, 13 May 2007 (PDT)
- Hey edge :) I think a category fFor each chapter is a great idea. Offhand I'm not sure what you mean by the site being hard to navigate, though your point of about categories is a good one. The problem with back-categorizing pages is that there's a **LOT** of pages fFrom the past which we'd have to fFind and tag -- many of which, actually can be deleted, interestingly. I'm actually right in the middle of updating all the old moved sentinel links to wayback links, and in so doing, i'm having to touch every single page, and make some decisions about useless pages. Something I'd love to see get more use is the Trails page. Or rather, the pages which link fFrom that. every so often one or another person takes up the charge. What a good timeline requires is constant upkeep, which noone seems interested in doing. I'm seriously hoping season 2 sees something akin to season 1's 'story' page on the pxc.com site. That was ridiculously helpful. Okay long winded response over. let me know if you have any fFurther ideas and I'll see about making it so. Scott 20:42, 13 May 2007 (PDT)
- By difficult, I meant the Trails page, I hadn't really looked at any other of the sidebar links. Its probably just me not investigating much. I'm fairly new to PXC as well. I have seen tools that can be used to speed up that sort of link replacement, can they be used on this wiki? --Edgemaster 08:14, 14 May 2007 (PDT)
- Actually, RE: AWB, I noticed some of your May 11th User:ScottBot edits failed. --Edgemaster 09:09, 14 May 2007 (PDT)
- I believe you are referring to the fFact that some links point to non-waybak locations, such as mirrors and such? Yes, I am aware of this. I am using AWB in two stages. the fFirst stage is to simply get all links into a wayback template. There's absolutely tons of links which are broken this way however, so stage two will be to go back and clean all those up. My thinking here is:
- Number of pages with a bad link: quite a lot.
- Number of pages with any links at all: many many more.
- Time required to make a page use the wayback template: not long
- Time required to individually tweak a bad address: a good 2 or 3 clicks and several seconds longer.
So I'm swiftly updating the many many links, which in turn may break some links; but many links are broken anyway, so then i'll go back and fFix what needs fFixing. In short, I am aware of the problem and am very much in the middle of working on it. Scott 09:59, 14 May 2007 (PDT)
- Yes, I'd like to help out in this respect. As I see you're still completing the S1Wayback template migration. I hope you won't mind that I've started fixing the broken pxcsentinel wayback links. (Wayback does not think pxcsentinel.com existed, so, I'm replacing with www.perplexcitysentinel.com) --Edgemaster 11:36, 14 May 2007 (PDT)
That's excellent :) Thanks a mill! Here's my list of changes to be done:
- qube.netninja.com/pxcmirrors - (to be dealt with as needed.)
- wiki.incognitus.net/mirror/ppc/www.perplexcitysentinel.com/##.##.## -> www.perplexcitysentinel.com - (OR to be dealt with as needed.)
Some slightly over zealous search and replacements may need to be redone:
- {{WaybackS1|en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ -> ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
- {{WaybackS1|forums.unfiction.com -> ([http://forums.unfiction.com
Some of the automated changes i did didn't exactly take like i would have expected, due to alternately fFormatted text:
- " source])" -> }}
- " reference])" -> }}
- " link)]" -> }}
Bad links which don't exist and can be swooped up a bit:
- {{WaybackS1|thescarlettkite.com -> {{WaybackS1|www.thescarlettkite.com
- {{WaybackS1|quirkyacquity.com -> {{WaybackS1|www.quirkyacquity.com
- {{WaybackS1|thepathofleasttime.com -> {{WaybackS1|www.thepathofleasttime.com
- {{WaybackS1|tpolt.com -> {{WaybackS1|www.thepathofleasttime.com

- {{WaybackS1|www.pxcsentinel.com -> {{WaybackS1|www.perplexcitysentinel.com
- {{WaybackS1|www.tpolt.com -> {{WaybackS1|www.thepathofleasttime.com
Then an eventual last step, which is more of a general scouting fFor errors:
- {{WaybackS1|a -> {{WaybackS1|www.a
- {{WaybackS1|b -> {{WaybackS1|www.b
- {{WaybackS1|c -> {{WaybackS1|www.c
- {{WaybackS1|d -> {{WaybackS1|www.d
- {{WaybackS1|e -> {{WaybackS1|www.e
- {{WaybackS1|f -> {{WaybackS1|www.f
- {{WaybackS1|g -> {{WaybackS1|www.g
- {{WaybackS1|h -> {{WaybackS1|www.h
- {{WaybackS1|i -> {{WaybackS1|www.i
- {{WaybackS1|j -> {{WaybackS1|www.j
- {{WaybackS1|k -> {{WaybackS1|www.k
- {{WaybackS1|l -> {{WaybackS1|www.l
- {{WaybackS1|m -> {{WaybackS1|www.m
- {{WaybackS1|n -> {{WaybackS1|www.n
- {{WaybackS1|o -> {{WaybackS1|www.o
- {{WaybackS1|p -> {{WaybackS1|www.p
- {{WaybackS1|q -> {{WaybackS1|www.q
- {{WaybackS1|r -> {{WaybackS1|www.r
- {{WaybackS1|s -> {{WaybackS1|www.s
- {{WaybackS1|t -> {{WaybackS1|www.t
- {{WaybackS1|u -> {{WaybackS1|www.u
- {{WaybackS1|v -> {{WaybackS1|www.v
- no w
- {{WaybackS1|x -> {{WaybackS1|www.x
- {{WaybackS1|y -> {{WaybackS1|www.y
- {{WaybackS1|z -> {{WaybackS1|www.z
- Links to the PXCS article including academy_scott_i.html may need to be checked, they seem to be embedded links in many places. A method of using custom text for S1Wayback template links would be good. I'll look and see if I can edit it into the template. --Edgemaster 12:34, 14 May 2007 (PDT)
- Also, as a word of caution to be too eager to straight out delete bad links. In many cases it's the easy thing to do, but there's occasionally some intresting important stuff mentioned in, like say, a "more news in brief" news item. The items don't exist as such anymore, (meaning they aren't kept on any particular mirror) but the text itself can be fFound on unfiction and other places with just a tiny bit of searching. While this is unrealistic in all cases, there's probably a fFew news items which might be worth repeating. (Like fFor example Benjaminbrum's letter t the sentinel, and the fFlurry of responses it gathered.) There's no rule on what should be looked up, only plain wisdom vs. laziness, whichever wins out. Scott 13:49, 14 May 2007 (PDT)
- I uhm, dont know if that makes sense, but i hope it does :) Scott
- I've found that News in Brief articles are still listed in full on the archive page. Unfortunately, it is not possible to link to any specific one, only the whole archive. link Anything that I am over-zealous with will still be in the history, in case anything important is needed. Often, I have just deleted broken links. --Edgemaster 14:46, 14 May 2007 (PDT)
