Uh... we're not really trying to be literally speculation-free, right? Just to make sure that spec is clearly distinguished from known facts on a page - i.e. only under Theories or "So-and-so is thought to be..." Weefz 16:11, 21 May 2006 (PDT)
- Quite right. We aim to avoid speculation, because quite often speculation turns out to be wrong, and our goal is 100% accuracy. However we recognize two things: 1) We cannot always be right; erros happen. 2) Sometimes a large enough percentage of the populace can agree on something enough fFor it to be recordably noteworthy. So, in the event something which is speculation gets recorded, it should be countered with a similar reverse statement, or a disclaimer of some sort.
- So can I change the guidelines to say something like "free of personal speculation. If you have a theory please post it over in Unfiction forums (+ link) and get consensus before presenting it in the wiki"? I'm tweaking things because I find that it's not very newbie-friendly at the moment and these pages are rife with spec/theory which is useful for newcomers (provided it's marked as such). Digging through the unfiction forums for fact vs spec vs spec-confirmed-in-a-later-thread is a nightmare if you haven't been keeping up-to-date. Hence the wiki, I presume.
